Project Description

Family Support

Perhaps the greatest sadness in Addiction is the helplessness and isolation that family members face as they watch someone they care about becoming more and more entangled in drug or alcohol use. People are often left to face feelings of anger, shame, resentment and self blame on their own as they feel that to talk to someone about the problem might expose the family to more shame and judgement.

FAST creates a safe, confidential place for family members to come and get support in an accepting and friendly environment. We offer

One to One Support

FAST offers support and counselling from experienced and professional staff, who understand the issues facing families and individuals concerning Addiction.

You are provided with a space where you can come and talk with the assurance of respect and confidence being extended to you.

Group Support

There is a great power in people coming together in community to support and understand each other. We at FAST have witnessed this time and time again as spouses, partners, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters have come together with the common purpose of talking about the impact of Addiction within the family, and finding new ways to live and cope through the support of others living in similar situations.

The sense of shame and isolation can be broken as individuals and families discover that others in the community share their experience.

We offer a Psycho-educational Family support group that runs for 11 weeks and a 5 Step Family Support Group that runs for 6 weeks.  These groups are on a Thursday evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

There is also a Peer Led Group running in FAST for families in the community who have previously availed of the Family Support service. They meet on :

Monday afternoon from 2.00pm- 4.00pm

If you would like to talk to someone about joining a support group you can ring us and arrange to meet with a FAST Family Support Worker.

You can contact the Family Support Team on (01) 8110595, or email edel@fastltd.ie or reception@fastltd.ie.

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

FAST is a non-profit organisation and as such we often lack the resources to advance and develop our services as quickly as we would often wish to. Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity for you to give something to your community. There are many ways to volunteer your time and expertise to the benefit of FAST and the Finglas community.
