Hi I’m Michelle Milne, I’m the family support worker here at Finglas Addiction Support Team.  I’m also part of the Outreach Team working with The Abigail Women’s Centre.

I have many years’ experience working in community and voluntary sector.

I have an Hon’s Bsc in Counselling and psychotherapy and I am also a CRA practitioner. I am a keen advocate for dual diagnosis the connection between mental health and addiction.

As Family Support worker, I believe family is the heart of the community.  Families that are affected by addiction should be supported in a safe, non Judgmental environment, gaining understanding and education of addiction and the impact on the family.

My name is Donna and I am the Recovery Services Support Advocate for FAST.  The recovery services support advocate assist’s FAST’s recovery services team in developing recovery services and activities on site at 2A Wellmount Road in Finglas.  This role is the first paid role in line with the National; Drugs Strategy around Peer to Peer support for people at all levels of recovery from substances.

In 2017 following my own experience overcoming addiction where I was availing of services for many years, I applied to undertake a degree in Social Care in Blanchardstown University.  The reason I went into this was because I wanted to be able to offer the same level of support that was shown to me while I addressed my own addiction.  For many years I had been on the outer side of the GP’s desk, but I was lost and didn’t even know my own worth or capabilities.  Thankfully I was encouraged by my peer group and family in that they had more belief in me then I had in myself.    Throughout this life changing process, I learned I had good communication skills, I am good at engaging with people and I am good at processing information. I learned I work best in a team as I  still need support sometimes, I respect anyone who takes on the recovery journey and know first-hand how difficult it can be with many obstacles and barriers along the way and yet with the right support you learn to believe you can do or be anyone you want to be.  I hid too long behind my addiction, and this was my chance to shine.

I started my role here at FAST two weeks ago and cannot believe the range of supports available to people for the Finglas area. I was very encouraged by the level of interagency work and how services help each other out.  I am now the lead in the recovery social group and recovery planning group and feel this is where my skill set is, helping others to gain what I have worked so hard to keep, my recovery.  I have developed recovery capital in terms of healthy relationships, goal setting and achieving, housing, drug free, education and reducing stigma.

We do recover!!!!!

My name is Peter and I am the Outreach worker here at FAST.  I am privileged to work with a team whom have years of experience in delivering services in the Finglas area.

My previous work experience was in a treatment centre for 13 months were I started to develop a hunger for learning, this kicked off with a level 6 in Psychotherapy which lead to me completing a level 7 in Addiction Studies in Maynooth University.  On completion of this course I applied and was successfully accepted on to a level 8 in the same discipline.  My hunger for learning continues.

In FAST we are currently developing our Outreach Service’s in line with harm reduction model, we do believe that there are many pathways to recovery and the starting point for some people is to be able to access harm reduction services.

I am really excited to see this develop and build on my own skill set of working in a community setting.   I have a good understanding in terms of in providing information on addiction, accessing programmes and building recovery capital within the Finglas area.

My name is Brian Mitchell, I am the Assertive Outreach Worker in FAST.  I have demonstrated a history of working in the voluntary community and housing services. I am skilled in working in addiction treatment and prevention, crisis intervention, young people, family services and case management.  I am a strong community and social services professional with a Higher National Diploma focused in Addiction Prevention and Treatment from Maynooth University.

I am part of a team that is responsible for providing outreach and assessment, creating treatment pathways and enhancing drug and alcohol accessibility for people in the Finglas/Cabra area.
