Family support

Jigsaw“I felt like I was the only one with this problem and that nobody would understand. I was embarrassed and ashamed to talk about it. Coming to FAST gave me confidence and let me know that I wasn’t alone. I can talk about things in the family without feeling judged“

Perhaps the greatest sadness in Addiction is the helplessness and isolation that family members face as they watch someone they care about becoming more and more entangled in drug or alcohol use. People are often left to face feelings of anger, shame, resentment and self blame on their own as they feel that to talk to someone about the problem might expose the family to more shame and judgement.

FAST creates a safe, confidential place for family members to come and get support in an accepting and friendly environment.

Family Support Drop in

The drop-in is a space where people can get a break for a little while and connect with others who may have similar issues in their own situation. It is also a place to get information and support for the extended family.

Through the use of activities, such as arts and crafts and holistic therapies, participants can relax for a couple of hours a week in the company of others. The drop in runs every Tuesday morning from 10am to 12pm.

One to One Support

hands claspedFAST offers support and counselling from experienced and professional staff, who understand the issues facing families and individuals concerning Addiction.

You are provided with a space where you can come and talk with the assurance of respect and confidence being extended to you.

Group Support

There is a great power in people coming together in community to support and understand each other. We at FAST have witnessed this time and time again as spouses, partners, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters have come together with the common purpose of talking about the impact of Addiction within the family, and finding new ways to live and cope through the support of others living in similar situations.

The sense of shame and isolation can be broken as individuals and families discover that others in the community share their experience.

There are currently three separate family support groups being facilitated at FAST. They run on:

Monday Evening from 7.00pm -9.00pm

Tuesday Afternoon from 1.30pm- 4.00pm

Tuesday evening from 7.00pm- 9.00pm
