The Mosaic art piece completed by participants and staff of FAST has been nominated for two Allianz Business to Arts Awards. The nominations are for "Best commissioning practice" and " Best use of staff engagement".
The Mosaic project was completed over a 3 month period and facilitated by local community artist Michelle Culligan. Participants were consulted initially and the piece was chosen to represent and summarise the journey of personal development, growth and emotions as told by FAST participants.
The atmosphere in the art room was always buoyant and energetic. Michelle's skill engaging with the group was obvious as the core group of participants were totally committed to each session.
The results of the mosaic project was finally unveiled in October 2011, when each board of the 6 part mosaic were
combined together and installed in the waiting area in the FAST building towards the end of the construction period. The
impact on visitors, participants and staff is instant and uplifting. It is a focal point of the building and a
constant reminder of the community involvement in all aspects of our service from initial start-up, support, co-operation and participation. The image of the mosaic was most recently used as the invitation to the upcoming official opening of the building by the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins on the 14th May 2012.
Many thanks to everyone involved, especially the core group of participants, FAST staff Rita and Grainne, Michelle Culligan and the Finglas Cabra Local Drug Task Force.
